Executive Summary

This vulnerability affects the Payment Forms for Paystack WordPress plugin versions below 4.0.6. It allows users with the Contributor role or higher to access a settings page that exposes sensitive payment-gateway API credentials, including both live and test secret keys. This grants unauthorized users full access to the site owner's payment account.

Detection Guidance

Check if the Payment Forms for Paystack plugin version is below 4.0.6. Log in as a user with Contributor role or higher and attempt to access the plugin's settings page to see if sensitive API credentials are exposed.

Impact Analysis

If exploited, this vulnerability could allow attackers to gain full access to your payment account by obtaining secret API keys. This could lead to unauthorized transactions, financial loss, or misuse of payment data. Users with Contributor roles or higher could access these credentials and compromise the site's payment security.

Compliance Impact

This vulnerability could lead to non-compliance with GDPR and HIPAA due to unauthorized access to sensitive payment data. GDPR requires protection of personal data, while HIPAA mandates safeguarding protected health information. Exposure of API keys and payment credentials violates these regulations, risking legal penalties and reputational damage.

Mitigation Strategies

Update the Payment Forms for Paystack plugin to version 4.0.6 or later immediately to prevent unauthorized access to API credentials.
