Executive Summary

This is a DOM-based Cross-Site Scripting (XSS) vulnerability in Adobe Experience Manager. An attacker can manipulate the DOM to execute malicious JavaScript in a victim's browser. The victim must visit a specially crafted webpage for exploitation to occur.

Detection Guidance

Detecting this DOM-based XSS vulnerability typically involves inspecting web application code for unsafe DOM manipulations. Use browser developer tools to monitor JavaScript execution and DOM changes. Look for user-controlled input being rendered without proper sanitization in functions like innerHTML, document.write, or eval.

Impact Analysis

An attacker could steal sensitive data like session cookies, redirect you to malicious sites, or perform actions on your behalf within the application. It may also lead to unauthorized access to user accounts or sensitive information.

Compliance Impact

This vulnerability could lead to data breaches, violating GDPR's data protection requirements or HIPAA's safeguards for protected health information. Organizations may face fines or penalties for failing to protect user data adequately.

Mitigation Strategies

Apply the latest security patches from Adobe for Adobe Experience Manager. Implement input validation and output encoding to prevent malicious JavaScript execution. Use Content Security Policy (CSP) headers to restrict inline scripts and external resource loading. Regularly audit web application code for DOM-based XSS patterns.
