Executive Summary

This is a DOM-based Cross-Site Scripting (XSS) vulnerability in Adobe Experience Manager. An attacker can manipulate the DOM to execute malicious JavaScript in a victim's browser. The victim must visit a specially crafted webpage for exploitation to occur.

Detection Guidance

Detection of this DOM-based XSS vulnerability typically involves inspecting web application code for unsafe DOM manipulations. Use browser developer tools to monitor DOM changes and look for suspicious JavaScript execution. Check for user-controlled input being reflected in the DOM without proper sanitization.

Impact Analysis

An attacker could steal sensitive data like session cookies, redirect you to malicious sites, or perform actions on your behalf. Since user interaction is required, the risk depends on whether you visit untrusted websites.

Compliance Impact

This DOM-based XSS vulnerability could potentially lead to unauthorized data access or manipulation, which may impact compliance with GDPR (data protection) and HIPAA (healthcare data privacy) by exposing sensitive user information through malicious script execution.

Mitigation Strategies

Apply the latest security patches from Adobe for Adobe Experience Manager. Implement input validation and output encoding to prevent malicious JavaScript execution. Use Content Security Policy (CSP) headers to mitigate the impact of XSS attacks. Review and sanitize all user-controlled inputs in web applications.
