Executive Summary

This is a DOM-based Cross-Site Scripting (XSS) vulnerability in Adobe Experience Manager. An attacker can manipulate the DOM to execute malicious JavaScript in a victim's browser. The victim must visit a specially crafted webpage for exploitation to occur.

Detection Guidance

Detection of DOM-based XSS vulnerabilities typically involves manual code review or automated scanning tools. Inspect client-side JavaScript for unsafe DOM manipulations like innerHTML, document.write, or eval. Use browser developer tools to monitor DOM changes and network requests for suspicious payloads.

Impact Analysis

An attacker could steal sensitive data like session cookies or credentials, perform actions on behalf of the user, or redirect the user to malicious sites. It may also lead to unauthorized access to user accounts or data.

Compliance Impact

This DOM-based XSS vulnerability could allow attackers to execute malicious JavaScript in a user's browser, potentially leading to unauthorized data access or manipulation. This may impact compliance with GDPR by risking personal data exposure and HIPAA by compromising protected health information if exploited in healthcare environments.

Mitigation Strategies

Apply Adobe's official security patches or updates for Adobe Experience Manager. Implement Content Security Policy (CSP) headers to restrict inline scripts and external resource loading. Sanitize user inputs and use secure coding practices to prevent DOM manipulation.
