Executive Summary

This is a DOM-based Cross-Site Scripting (XSS) vulnerability in Adobe Experience Manager. An attacker can manipulate the Document Object Model (DOM) to inject malicious JavaScript code that executes in a victim's browser when they visit a specially crafted webpage. The attacker needs the victim to interact with the malicious page for exploitation.

Detection Guidance

Detecting DOM-based XSS vulnerabilities typically involves manual code review and browser-based testing. Inspect the DOM for suspicious JavaScript functions like innerHTML, document.write, or eval. Use browser developer tools to monitor network requests and DOM changes. Tools like OWASP ZAP or Burp Suite can help identify potential XSS vectors.

Impact Analysis

If exploited, this vulnerability could allow an attacker to steal sensitive information like session cookies or credentials, perform actions on behalf of the user, or deface websites. Since it requires user interaction, users must visit a malicious page for the attack to succeed.

Mitigation Strategies

Apply the latest security patches from Adobe for Adobe Experience Manager. Implement Content Security Policy (CSP) headers to restrict inline scripts. Sanitize user inputs and use frameworks that automatically escape output. Regularly audit and update third-party libraries.
