Executive Summary

This is a stored Cross-Site Scripting (XSS) vulnerability in Adobe Experience Manager. A low-privileged attacker can inject malicious scripts into vulnerable form fields. When a victim visits the affected page, the malicious JavaScript executes in their browser.

Detection Guidance

Detecting this stored XSS vulnerability requires manual inspection of Adobe Experience Manager form fields. Check input fields in AEM forms for improper input validation. Look for fields that reflect user input without proper sanitization. Use browser developer tools to inspect form fields and submitted data for suspicious scripts or payloads like <script> tags.

Impact Analysis

An attacker could steal session cookies, redirect users to malicious sites, or perform actions on behalf of the user. This could lead to unauthorized access to sensitive data or account compromise.

Compliance Impact

This vulnerability could lead to unauthorized data access or disclosure, violating GDPR's data protection requirements and HIPAA's safeguards for protected health information.

Mitigation Strategies

Apply Adobe's official security patches for AEM immediately. Implement strict input validation for all form fields. Use output encoding to sanitize user-supplied data before rendering. Restrict form field permissions to least privilege. Monitor form submissions for unusual activity or malicious payloads.
