CWE ID Description
CWE-416 The product reuses or references memory after it has been freed. At some point afterward, the memory may be allocated again and saved in another pointer, while the original pointer references a location somewhere within the new allocation. Any operations using the original pointer are no longer valid because the memory "belongs" to the code that operates on the new pointer.

Executive Summary

This vulnerability is a use-after-free issue in Google Chrome's Media component. A use-after-free occurs when a program continues to use a pointer after the memory it points to has been freed, potentially leading to arbitrary code execution. In this case, a remote attacker could exploit this by tricking a user into visiting a specially crafted HTML page, allowing them to execute code within the browser's sandbox.

Impact Analysis

This vulnerability could allow an attacker to run malicious code on your device by exploiting a flaw in Chrome's Media handling. If successful, the attacker could take control of your browser session, steal sensitive data, or install malware. The sandbox limits the impact, but the high CVSS score indicates significant risk.

Mitigation Strategies

Update Google Chrome to version 155.0.8059.79 or later to address the use-after-free vulnerability in Media.
