CWE ID Description
CWE-416 The product reuses or references memory after it has been freed. At some point afterward, the memory may be allocated again and saved in another pointer, while the original pointer references a location somewhere within the new allocation. Any operations using the original pointer are no longer valid because the memory "belongs" to the code that operates on the new pointer.

Executive Summary

This vulnerability is a use-after-free issue in the SVG component of Google Chrome versions prior to 155.0.8059.79. A use-after-free occurs when a program continues to use a pointer after the memory it points to has been freed, potentially leading to arbitrary code execution. In this case, a remote attacker could exploit this by crafting a malicious HTML page to execute arbitrary code within the browser's sandbox.

Impact Analysis

If you use an affected version of Google Chrome, this vulnerability could allow an attacker to execute arbitrary code on your system by tricking you into visiting a specially crafted webpage. Since it occurs within the sandbox, the impact is limited to the browser's environment, but it could still lead to data theft, installation of malware, or further compromise of your system.

Compliance Impact

This vulnerability could potentially lead to unauthorized access to sensitive data, which may violate compliance requirements under GDPR (data protection) or HIPAA (health information privacy). Organizations using affected Chrome versions may face regulatory penalties if a breach occurs due to this issue.

Mitigation Strategies

Update Google Chrome to version 155.0.8059.79 or later to address the use after free vulnerability in SVG rendering.
