CWE ID Description
CWE-416 The product reuses or references memory after it has been freed. At some point afterward, the memory may be allocated again and saved in another pointer, while the original pointer references a location somewhere within the new allocation. Any operations using the original pointer are no longer valid because the memory "belongs" to the code that operates on the new pointer.

Executive Summary

This vulnerability is a use-after-free issue in Google Chrome's Media component. It occurs when a program tries to use memory that has already been freed, potentially allowing a remote attacker to execute arbitrary code within the browser's sandbox. The attack requires a specially crafted HTML page to trigger the flaw.

Detection Guidance

I don't know

Detection typically requires checking the installed version of Google Chrome against the patched version (155.0.8059.79 or later). Use commands like 'google-chrome --version' on Linux or check 'chrome://settings/help' in the browser.

Impact Analysis

If exploited, this vulnerability could allow an attacker to run malicious code on your device through a compromised webpage. Since it executes inside the sandbox, it may bypass some security restrictions, potentially leading to unauthorized access or data theft. Users should update Chrome to the patched version immediately.

Mitigation Strategies

Update Google Chrome to version 155.0.8059.79 or later immediately. Disable automatic updates temporarily if needed, but prioritize patching. Avoid visiting untrusted websites until updated.
