CWE ID Description
CWE-416 The product reuses or references memory after it has been freed. At some point afterward, the memory may be allocated again and saved in another pointer, while the original pointer references a location somewhere within the new allocation. Any operations using the original pointer are no longer valid because the memory "belongs" to the code that operates on the new pointer.

Executive Summary

This vulnerability is a use-after-free issue in V8, the JavaScript engine used by Google Chrome. It occurs when a program tries to use memory that has already been freed, potentially leading to arbitrary code execution within the browser's sandbox. An attacker could exploit this by crafting a malicious HTML page that triggers the flaw, allowing them to run code inside Chrome's restricted sandbox environment.

Impact Analysis

If exploited, this vulnerability could allow an attacker to execute arbitrary code on your system through a malicious webpage. This might lead to unauthorized access, data theft, or installation of malware. Since it affects Chrome's sandbox, the attacker's code would run with limited system privileges, but could still cause significant harm depending on the attacker's goals.

Mitigation Strategies

Update Google Chrome to version 155.0.8059.79 or later to address the use after free vulnerability in V8.
