Description

Finsys Dockhand before 1.0.43 contains a response-disclosing server-side request forgery vulnerability that allows authenticated users to make the server fetch arbitrary URLs by supplying repository URL and stackfile values. Attackers can send stack templates pointing to internal services or cloud metadata endpoints and read the fetched content from the compose response field, exposing credentials and tokens.

Executive Summary

This is a Server-Side Request Forgery (SSRF) vulnerability in Finsys Dockhand versions before 1.0.43. It allows authenticated users to manipulate repository URL and stackfile inputs in the /api/templates/compose endpoint to force the server to fetch arbitrary URLs. Attackers can access internal services or cloud metadata endpoints and retrieve sensitive data like credentials or tokens from the server's response.

Detection Guidance

To detect this vulnerability, monitor network traffic for outbound requests from the Dockhand server to internal or unexpected external endpoints. Check logs for POST requests to /api/templates/compose with repository URL and stackfile parameters pointing to internal services or cloud metadata endpoints like 169.254.169.254 (AWS metadata).

Commands to check: 1) Use curl to test the endpoint: curl -X POST -H 'Content-Type: application/json' -d '{"repository":{"url":"http://internal-service","stackfile":"http://internal-service/file"}}' http://localhost:3000/api/templates/compose. 2) Inspect server logs for unexpected fetch() calls or SSRF-related errors.

Impact Analysis

If you use Finsys Dockhand before version 1.0.43, an attacker with valid account access could exploit this to fetch internal services or cloud metadata endpoints. This could expose sensitive information such as credentials, API tokens, or service configurations, potentially leading to lateral movement or compromise of cloud resources.

Mitigation Strategies

Immediately upgrade Dockhand to version 1.0.43 or later to patch the vulnerability. If upgrading is not possible, restrict access to the /api/templates/compose endpoint to trusted users only and implement network-level controls to block outbound requests to internal or metadata endpoints.

Additionally, audit all recent compose requests for suspicious repository URLs or stackfile values pointing to internal services. Rotate any exposed credentials or tokens if the vulnerability was potentially exploited.
