Authentication Bypass in n8n Workflow Execution

Vulnerability report for CVE-2026-110852, including description, CVSS score, EPSS score, affected products, exploitability, helpful resources, and attack-flow context.

Assigner: VulnCheck

Description

n8n before 1.123.83, 2.x before 2.41.4, and 2.42.x before 2.42.1 contains an authentication bypass because dynamic-path webhook resolution matched requests on the path alone, ignoring the server-generated identifier that is the URL's only unguessable component. Unauthenticated attackers can omit this identifier in requests to webhook, form, or MCP routes to execute workflows in unrelated projects under those projects' credentials.

Executive Summary

This vulnerability is an authentication bypass in n8n versions before 1.123.83, 2.x before 2.41.4, and 2.42.x before 2.42.1. It occurs because dynamic-path webhook resolution matches requests based solely on the path, ignoring a server-generated identifier that should make the URL unguessable. Attackers can omit this identifier to execute workflows in unrelated projects under those projects' credentials.

Detection Guidance

To detect this vulnerability, check if your n8n instance is running a vulnerable version (before 1.123.83, 2.x before 2.41.4, or 2.42.x before 2.42.1). Inspect webhook, form, or MCP routes for missing server-generated identifiers in requests. Monitor for unauthorized workflow executions under unrelated projects.

Impact Analysis

Unauthenticated attackers could exploit this to run unauthorized workflows in projects they don't own, potentially accessing sensitive data, modifying workflows, or triggering unintended actions. This could lead to data breaches, service disruptions, or unauthorized system access depending on the workflows' permissions.

Compliance Impact

This vulnerability could lead to unauthorized access or data exposure, violating GDPR's data protection principles or HIPAA's security requirements for protected health information. Organizations using affected n8n versions may face compliance violations, legal penalties, or reputational damage if exploited.

Mitigation Strategies

Upgrade n8n to version 1.123.83 or later, 2.41.4 or later, or 2.42.1 or later to address the authentication bypass issue.
