Executive Summary

This vulnerability affects the asVereinbase WordPress plugin before version 1.1.8. It allows unauthenticated attackers to bypass authentication, including two-factor authentication, by exploiting a flaw where an empty stored value is treated as a valid match. This lets attackers log in as any user, including administrators, without a valid password or second factor.

Detection Guidance

Check the installed version of the asVereinbase WordPress plugin. If it is below 1.1.8, the system is vulnerable. Use commands like 'wp plugin list' in WordPress CLI or inspect the plugin files directly.

Impact Analysis

An attacker could gain full control of your WordPress site by logging in as an administrator. This could lead to unauthorized data access, website defacement, malware distribution, or complete site takeover. All users of the affected plugin versions are at risk.

Compliance Impact

This vulnerability could lead to unauthorized access to sensitive data, violating GDPR and HIPAA requirements for data protection and access controls. Organizations may face fines or legal consequences if this flaw results in data breaches.

Mitigation Strategies

Update the asVereinbase plugin to version 1.1.8 or later immediately. If an update is not available, consider disabling the plugin temporarily until a patch is released.
