Executive Summary

Płatnik software uses HTTP protocol to download updates, libraries, and support files. This allows an attacker to perform a Man-In-The-Middle attack, intercept transmitted data, and replace original files with malicious ones.

Detection Guidance

Monitor network traffic for unencrypted HTTP downloads from Płatnik. Use packet sniffers like tcpdump or Wireshark to inspect traffic on ports 80 or 443 for suspicious file transfers. Check system logs for unusual file modifications in Płatnik directories.

Impact Analysis

An attacker could intercept sensitive data during file downloads or replace legitimate files with malicious versions, potentially leading to data theft, malware installation, or unauthorized system access.

Compliance Impact

This vulnerability could lead to unauthorized access to personal or sensitive data, violating GDPR's data protection requirements and HIPAA's security rules for protected health information.

Mitigation Strategies

Upgrade Płatnik to version 10.02.002 or later. Disable HTTP downloads and enforce HTTPS for all updates. Implement network monitoring to detect MITM attempts. Block unauthorized file modifications in Płatnik directories.
