Description

The HT Mega Addons for Elementor – Elementor Widgets & Template Builder plugin for WordPress is vulnerable to Stored DOM-Based Cross-Site Scripting via the 'href attribute of <a> inside .htmega-tab-nav' parameter in all versions up to, and including, 3.2.7 due to insufficient input sanitization and output escaping. This makes it possible for unauthenticated attackers to inject arbitrary web scripts in pages that will execute whenever a user accesses an injected page. Successful exploitation requires a co-installed plugin such as wpDiscuz with its rich editor enabled whose markup allowlist permits span[class] and a[href] storage, an HT Mega Tabs widget present on the same page as the comment section, and a victim user click on the injected anchor link.

Executive Summary

This vulnerability is a Stored DOM-Based Cross-Site Scripting (XSS) flaw in the HT Mega Addons for Elementor WordPress plugin. It allows unauthenticated attackers to inject malicious scripts via the href attribute of anchor tags in the .htmega-tab-nav parameter. The issue arises due to insufficient input sanitization and output escaping in versions up to 3.2.7.

Detection Guidance

This vulnerability requires specific conditions to be present: HT Mega Addons plugin up to 3.2.7, wpDiscuz plugin with rich editor enabled, and an HT Mega Tabs widget on the same page as the comment section. Manual inspection of plugin versions and widget configurations is needed as no direct detection commands are provided.

Impact Analysis

An attacker could exploit this to inject malicious scripts into web pages. If a victim user clicks on an infected link, the script executes, potentially stealing cookies, session tokens, or other sensitive data. Successful exploitation requires specific conditions like co-installed plugins with certain markup allowlists and a victim user interaction.

Mitigation Strategies

Update the HT Mega Addons for Elementor plugin to the latest version beyond 3.2.7 immediately. If wpDiscuz is installed, disable its rich editor or adjust its markup allowlist to remove span[class] and a[href] permissions. Remove any HT Mega Tabs widgets from pages with comment sections.
