Description

在 openGauss-server的 src/common/backend/utils/adt/genfile.cpp 模块中,内置函数 pg_read_binary_file_blocks() 存在权限校验逻辑缺陷。

Executive Summary

This vulnerability is in openGauss-server's pg_read_binary_file_blocks() function which lacks proper permission checks. It allows users with basic database access to read binary data blocks from tables without needing SELECT privileges by exploiting file path retrieval functions like pg_relation_filepath().

Detection Guidance

To detect this vulnerability, check if your openGauss-server version is between 3.0.0 and 6.0.0 or an unpatched 7.0.0-LTS. Verify if the pg_read_binary_file_blocks() function lacks proper permission checks. Review database logs for unusual file read operations by non-privileged users.

Impact Analysis

An attacker with database access could read sensitive data from other tables without authorization. This includes accessing compressed data files or other restricted information, potentially leading to data breaches or unauthorized information disclosure.

Compliance Impact

This vulnerability could lead to non-compliance with data protection regulations like GDPR or HIPAA by enabling unauthorized access to sensitive personal or health information stored in the database.

Mitigation Strategies

Upgrade openGauss-server to version 7.0.0-LTS or later to apply the patch fixing this vulnerability.
