Description

IceCMS through 4.1.5 contains an unauthenticated sql injection vulnerability that allows remote attackers to inject SQL by supplying a crafted num path parameter to /WebResource/findresourcebynum. Attackers can append SQL after the LIMIT clause concatenated via QueryWrapper.last() to extract database contents using union-based or blind techniques.

CWE ID Description
CWE-89 The product constructs all or part of an SQL command using externally-influenced input from an upstream component, but it does not neutralize or incorrectly neutralizes special elements that could modify the intended SQL command when it is sent to a downstream component. Without sufficient removal or quoting of SQL syntax in user-controllable inputs, the generated SQL query can cause those inputs to be interpreted as SQL instead of ordinary user data.

Executive Summary

IceCMS through version 4.1.5 has an unauthenticated SQL injection vulnerability. This flaw allows remote attackers to inject malicious SQL code by manipulating the 'num' path parameter in the '/WebResource/findresourcebynum' endpoint. Attackers can append SQL commands after the LIMIT clause, enabling them to extract sensitive database contents using techniques like union-based or blind SQL injection.

Detection Guidance

To detect this vulnerability, inspect network traffic for requests to /WebResource/findresourcebynum with a crafted num parameter. Look for SQL-like payloads such as UNION, SELECT, or other SQL keywords appended after LIMIT. Use tools like Wireshark or tcpdump to capture and analyze HTTP requests targeting this endpoint.

Impact Analysis

This vulnerability can allow attackers to access, modify, or delete sensitive data stored in the database without authentication. They could extract user credentials, personal information, or other confidential data. Attackers might also manipulate database records, leading to data integrity issues or unauthorized system access.

Compliance Impact

This vulnerability can lead to severe compliance violations under GDPR and HIPAA. GDPR requires protecting personal data, and a breach could result in significant fines. HIPAA mandates safeguarding protected health information, and this flaw could expose such data, leading to legal penalties and reputational damage.

Mitigation Strategies

Immediately update IceCMS to the latest version beyond 4.1.5. If an update is unavailable, apply input validation to sanitize the num parameter in /WebResource/findresourcebynum. Restrict access to this endpoint via firewall rules or web application firewall (WAF) to block suspicious queries.
