Description

A vulnerability was detected in donetick up to 0.1.82. The impacted element is the function CanDeleteHistory of the file internal/chore/model/model.go of the component History Deletion Handler. The manipulation of the argument AssignedTo results in improper authorization. The attack can be launched remotely. The exploit is now public and may be used. The project maintainer explains: "The concerns about "IDOR" framing seem to be overstated in my opinion (...), as Circle members are already trusted collaborators. We will address this issue. However, since the impact is limited to trusted members within the same circle, I would classify this as a bug rather than a security vulnerability."

Executive Summary

CVE-2026-112045 is an Insecure Direct Object Reference (IDOR) vulnerability in the Donetick application affecting versions up to 0.1.82. The flaw is in the CanDeleteHistory function in internal/chore/model/model.go. It allows any authenticated circle member to delete another member's chore completion history entries by manipulating the AssignedTo argument, even without proper authorization. The issue stems from a logic error where null AssignedTo values incorrectly grant deletion permissions.

The vulnerability specifically affects history deletion when AssignedTo is null, which applies to most chores using default settings. This allows deletion of audit trails, streaks, and accountability records by unauthorized users within the same circle.

Detection Guidance

Check Donetick application logs for unauthorized deletion of chore history entries. Review user activity in the admin panel for suspicious deletions. Inspect API calls to the history deletion endpoint for unexpected AssignedTo=null parameters.

Impact Analysis

This vulnerability allows any member of your Donetick circle to delete another member's chore completion history entries. This could corrupt streaks, point totals, and accountability records by erasing audit trails. It may also allow manipulation of shared chore tracking data within collaborative environments.

The impact is limited to within-circle actions since cross-circle deletion is blocked. Users relying on Donetick for collaborative task management or gamification systems may experience inaccurate progress tracking and accountability issues.

Compliance Impact

The vulnerability allows unauthorized deletion of task completion history within a circle, potentially violating data integrity and audit trail requirements in GDPR and HIPAA. Unauthorized modifications to records could undermine compliance with accountability and data accuracy principles.

Mitigation Strategies

Update Donetick to the latest version where the CanDeleteHistory function has been fixed. Review and restrict user permissions to ensure only authorized users can delete history entries. Monitor for any unauthorized deletions in the audit logs.
