Executive Summary

FlyCms has a mass assignment vulnerability where authenticated users can modify protected account fields by submitting extra User bean fields to /ucenter/account_update. This allows attackers to change review status, rename accounts, or duplicate another user's username, email, or mobile to disrupt their login.

Detection Guidance

To detect this mass assignment vulnerability in FlyCms, monitor HTTP POST requests to /ucenter/account_update for unusual parameters like review_status, username, email, mobile, or other user fields. Check for requests with extra fields beyond standard account updates. Use tools like Burp Suite or Wireshark to inspect traffic for suspicious payloads. Inspect application logs for repeated failed login attempts or account modifications from single IPs.

Impact Analysis

If exploited, this vulnerability could allow attackers to take over accounts by changing login credentials, disrupt services by duplicating usernames, or manipulate account statuses. Users may lose access to their accounts or face impersonation risks.

Compliance Impact

This vulnerability could lead to unauthorized account access or data breaches, violating GDPR's data protection requirements or HIPAA's access controls. Non-compliance may result in legal penalties or reputational damage.

Mitigation Strategies

Update FlyCms to a patched version beyond commit edfdf724 to fix the mass assignment issue. Review user accounts for unauthorized changes like modified review statuses or duplicated usernames. Implement server-side validation to prevent extra User bean fields from being submitted.
