Executive Summary

This is a memory integrity vulnerability where an app could potentially alter copy-on-write memory pages unexpectedly. Copy-on-write is a memory optimization technique where memory pages are shared between processes until one tries to modify them, at which point a private copy is made. The issue allows an app to cause unintended changes to these shared memory pages.

Detection Guidance

This vulnerability is specific to Apple operating systems and relates to memory integrity issues in copy-on-write pages. Detection would typically require checking the version of your Apple device's operating system against the fixed versions listed in the CVE description.

Impact Analysis

An attacker could exploit this to manipulate memory in other running applications or the operating system itself. This might lead to crashes, data corruption, or allow the attacker to execute arbitrary code with elevated privileges. Users could experience system instability or security breaches depending on the attacker's goals.

Mitigation Strategies

Update affected Apple devices to the specified patched versions: iOS 26.7.2 or later, iPadOS 26.7.2 or later, macOS Golden Gate 27.2 or later, macOS Sequoia 15.8.2 or later, macOS Tahoe 26.7.2 or later, tvOS 27.2 or later, visionOS 27.2 or later, watchOS 27.2 or later.
