Session Hijacking via Unauthorized _Session Creation in Parse Server

Vulnerability report for CVE-2026-112769, including description, CVSS score, EPSS score, affected products, exploitability, helpful resources, and attack-flow context.

Publication date: 2026-10-19

Last updated on: 2026-10-19

Assigner: VulnCheck

Description

Parse Server before 8.6.98 and 9.0.0 before 9.10.3-alpha.1 does not enforce the create and addField class-level permissions of the _Session class when creating sessions. An authenticated user, or anyone holding that user's session token, can send POST requests to /sessions or /classes/_Session to create additional sessions for that user and add fields to _Session; these sessions are not revoked when the original session is logged out.

Executive Summary

Parse Server before 8.6.98 and 9.0.0 before 9.10.3-alpha.1 allows authenticated users to bypass class-level permissions for the _Session class. This means users can create additional sessions for their own account or add fields to _Session even when permissions are restricted. These sessions persist after the original session is logged out.

Detection Guidance

Check Parse Server versions for affected releases (9.0.0 to 9.10.2 or 8.6.97 and below). Review logs for POST requests to /sessions or /classes/_Session from authenticated users. Monitor for unexpected session creation or modifications to the _Session class.

Impact Analysis

If you use Parse Server with restricted permissions on the _Session class, an attacker with your session token could create new sessions for your account. These sessions remain active even after you log out, potentially allowing continued unauthorized access to your account.

Compliance Impact

This vulnerability could impact compliance by allowing unauthorized session persistence, potentially violating data access controls required by GDPR or HIPAA. Unauthorized access to sessions may lead to unauthorized data exposure or modification, which could result in regulatory violations.

Mitigation Strategies

Upgrade Parse Server to patched versions (9.10.3-alpha.1 or 8.6.98). If upgrading is not possible, block session creation requests or disable the GraphQL API mutation for the _Session class as a workaround.
