Craft CMS Twig Sandbox Bypass Exposes Sensitive Data

Vulnerability report for CVE-2026-112771, including description, CVSS score, EPSS score, affected products, exploitability, helpful resources, and attack-flow context.

Assigner: VulnCheck

Description

Craft CMS 4.0.0 before 4.18.8 and 5.0.0 before 5.11.0 contains a Twig sandbox allowlist bypass because the column, contains, filterByValue, index, where, and multisort filters resolve caller-supplied keys via ArrayHelper::getValue() without consulting the sandbox security policy. Authenticated Control Panel users can supply dot-path keys to traverse the craft global and disclose the securityKey, database credentials, and auth tokens.

Executive Summary

This vulnerability in Craft CMS versions 4.0.0 before 4.18.8 and 5.0.0 before 5.11.0 allows an authenticated Control Panel user to bypass the Twig sandbox allowlist. Six specific Twig filters (column, contains, filterByValue, index, where, multisort) can resolve caller-supplied keys via ArrayHelper::getValue(), which performs dot-path traversal to access restricted properties. This bypasses the sandbox security policy and enables reading sensitive data like securityKey, database credentials, and auth tokens.

Detection Guidance

Check Craft CMS version with: composer show craftcms/cms. If version is 4.0.0-4.18.7 or 5.0.0-5.10.9, it is vulnerable. Inspect Twig sandbox configuration in config/general.php for enableTwigSandbox=true. Review templates using column, contains, filterByValue, index, where, or multisort filters with user-controlled input.

Impact Analysis

An attacker with Control Panel access could exploit this to disclose sensitive information such as security keys, database credentials, session data, and authentication tokens. This could lead to unauthorized access to the system, data breaches, or further attacks. The vulnerability does not allow arbitrary code execution but enables significant information disclosure.

Compliance Impact

This vulnerability could lead to unauthorized exposure of sensitive personal or health data, violating GDPR and HIPAA compliance. GDPR requires protection of personal data, while HIPAA mandates safeguarding protected health information. A breach could result in legal penalties, fines, and reputational damage due to non-compliance with these regulations.

Mitigation Strategies

Upgrade Craft CMS to version 4.18.8 or 5.11.0 or later. Disable enableTwigSandbox in config/general.php if not required. Audit templates for sensitive data exposure via affected filters. Rotate securityKey, database credentials, and auth tokens if potentially exposed.
