CWE ID Description
CWE-416 The product reuses or references memory after it has been freed. At some point afterward, the memory may be allocated again and saved in another pointer, while the original pointer references a location somewhere within the new allocation. Any operations using the original pointer are no longer valid because the memory "belongs" to the code that operates on the new pointer.

Executive Summary

This vulnerability is a use-after-free issue in Chromoting (remote desktop functionality) within Google Chrome versions before 156.0.8078.47. A use-after-free occurs when a program continues to use memory after it has been freed, potentially leading to corruption or arbitrary code execution. An attacker could exploit this by tricking a user into visiting a specially crafted HTML page, enabling remote code execution within the browser's sandbox.

Impact Analysis

If exploited, this vulnerability could allow an attacker to run malicious code on your device through the Chrome browser. This might lead to unauthorized access to sensitive data, installation of malware, or further compromise of your system. The sandbox limits the impact, but successful exploitation could still cause significant harm.

Mitigation Strategies

Update Google Chrome to version 156.0.8078.47 or later to address the use-after-free vulnerability in Chromoting.
