Description

A vulnerability was detected in DrayTek Vigor2960 1.5.1.6 Revision 8218. Affected by this vulnerability is the function set_table of the file /cgi-bin/mainfunction.cgi of the component CGI Process. The manipulation of the argument sectiontype results in command injection. The attack may be launched remotely. The exploit is now public and may be used. The vendor explains: "2960 1.5.1.7 has corrected many security issues. And 2960 is EoS with limited support, only major issues would be reviewed(e.g. unauthenticated vuln.)". This vulnerability only affects products that are no longer supported by the maintainer.

Executive Summary

CVE-2026-113389 is a command injection vulnerability in DrayTek Vigor2960 router firmware version 1.5.1.6 (revision 8218). It affects the set_table function in the /cgi-bin/mainfunction.cgi component. An attacker with admin access can exploit this by sending a malicious JSON payload with a sectiontype argument, which is improperly sanitized and executed as a shell command. This allows arbitrary command execution with CGI process privileges.

Detection Guidance

To detect CVE-2026-113389, check if your DrayTek Vigor2960 router is running firmware version 1.5.1.6 (revision 8218). Inspect network traffic for requests to /cgi-bin/mainfunction.cgi with a sectiontype parameter. Use a PoC script from the provided GitHub repository to test if the command injection is possible.

  • Check firmware version via SSH: ssh admin@router_ip 'cat /etc/version'
  • Monitor CGI requests: tcpdump -i any -A 'tcp port 80 and host router_ip and /cgi-bin/mainfunction.cgi'
  • Run PoC script: python3 draytek_exploit.py --target router_ip --username admin --password password
Impact Analysis

This vulnerability allows remote attackers with admin access to execute arbitrary commands on the router. This could lead to full system compromise, data theft, network disruption, or unauthorized access to connected devices. Since the router is no longer supported, patches may not be available.

Mitigation Strategies

Upgrade to firmware version 1.5.1.7 or later, as it addresses security issues. If upgrading is not possible, restrict administrative access to the router's web interface and disable remote management. Monitor for suspicious activity in logs and network traffic.
