Description

A vulnerability was identified in DrayTek Vigor2960 1.5.1.6 Revision 8218. Impacted is the function setSWMProfile of the file /cgi-bin/mainfunction.cgi. The manipulation of the argument setSWMProfile leads to path traversal. It is possible to initiate the attack remotely. The exploit is publicly available and might be used. The vendor explains: "2960 1.5.1.7 has corrected many security issues. And 2960 is EoS with limited support, only major issues would be reviewed(e.g. unauthenticated vuln.)". This vulnerability only affects products that are no longer supported by the maintainer.

Executive Summary

CVE-2026-113394 is a path traversal and command injection flaw in DrayTek Vigor2960 router firmware version 1.5.1.6. It exists in the setSWMProfile function of /cgi-bin/mainfunction.cgi. An attacker with admin access can send a crafted POST request to manipulate the filename parameter with path traversal sequences like ../../../, allowing arbitrary file writes or command execution on the device.

Detection Guidance

Check for unusual POST requests to /cgi-bin/mainfunction.cgi with action=setSWMProfile and manipulated filename parameters containing path traversal sequences like ../../../. Monitor for unexpected file writes to sensitive paths such as /var/status_system_interface or command execution logs.

Impact Analysis

This vulnerability allows attackers to overwrite critical system files or execute arbitrary commands with root privileges. Successful exploitation could lead to device compromise, data theft, or denial of service. Since the exploit is publicly available, even less skilled attackers could leverage it.

Mitigation Strategies

Upgrade to firmware version 1.5.1.7 or later if available. If unsupported, restrict administrative access to the device, disable remote management, and monitor for suspicious activity. Apply network-level controls to block unauthorized POST requests to /cgi-bin/mainfunction.cgi.
