Description

A security flaw has been discovered in DrayTek Vigor2960 1.5.1.6 Revision 8218. The affected element is the function cgiEscape of the file /cgi-bin/mainfunction.cgi of the component swmconfigupload. The manipulation of the argument multipart results in path traversal. It is possible to launch the attack remotely. The exploit has been released to the public and may be used for attacks. Upgrading to version 1.5.1.7 is sufficient to fix this issue. The affected component should be upgraded. The vendor explains: "2960 1.5.1.7 has corrected many security issues. And 2960 is EoS with limited support, only major issues would be reviewed(e.g. unauthenticated vuln.)". This vulnerability only affects products that are no longer supported by the maintainer.

Executive Summary

CVE-2026-113395 is a path traversal and command injection flaw in DrayTek Vigor2960 firmware version 1.5.1.6. The vulnerability exists in the /cgi-bin/mainfunction.cgi component swmconfigupload. An attacker can exploit this by uploading a file with a crafted field name containing path traversal sequences (like ../) to write files to arbitrary locations on the filesystem. Since the CGI runs as root, this allows overwriting critical system files or executing arbitrary commands.

Detection Guidance

To detect this vulnerability, check if your DrayTek Vigor2960 device is running firmware version 1.5.1.6 (revision 8218). Inspect network traffic for requests to /cgi-bin/mainfunction.cgi with multipart field names containing path traversal sequences like ../ or /.

Impact Analysis

This vulnerability allows an authenticated attacker to overwrite system files or execute arbitrary root-level commands. This could lead to complete system compromise, data theft, or denial of service. Attackers could modify system configurations, install malware, or disrupt device operations.

Mitigation Strategies

Upgrade the firmware to version 1.5.1.7 or later immediately. If upgrading is not possible, restrict access to the /swmconfigupload endpoint and monitor for suspicious file writes or command execution attempts.
