Executive Summary

Pleasanter has a flaw in its LDAP authentication where it fails to properly verify passwords when processing specially crafted requests under certain configurations. Attackers can bypass LDAP authentication by providing only a valid Login ID without a password. This allows unauthorized access to view, alter, or delete data with the privileges of the logged-in account.

Detection Guidance

To detect this vulnerability, check if Pleasanter is running versions 1.1.0.0 to 1.5.9.0 with LDAP authentication enabled. Verify if 'DsProvider' is set to 'Novell' and if the LDAP server allows Anonymous Bind. Inspect network logs for authentication attempts with only a Login ID and no password.

Impact Analysis

An attacker could gain unauthorized access to your Pleasanter instance by providing just a valid Login ID. This could lead to unauthorized viewing, modification, or deletion of sensitive data stored in the application. The impact depends on the privileges of the compromised account.

Compliance Impact

This vulnerability could lead to unauthorized access and data breaches, violating compliance requirements such as GDPR (data protection) and HIPAA (health information security). Organizations may face legal penalties, reputational damage, and loss of trust due to non-compliance resulting from this flaw.

Mitigation Strategies

Immediately update Pleasanter to version 1.5.9.1 or later. If updating is not possible, contact the developer's support for a workaround. Disable Anonymous Bind on the LDAP server if enabled.
