Executive Summary

This vulnerability involves HTML injection in email content. Visitor-provided values were inserted into HTML summary emails without proper escaping, allowing an unauthenticated attacker to inject malicious HTML code into emails viewed by recipients.

Detection Guidance

Check if your TYPO3 Fluid-Form extension is vulnerable by inspecting email templates for unescaped user input. Look for HTML injection in summary emails sent to users. Review server logs for suspicious email content or unusual HTML tags.

Impact Analysis

An attacker could craft emails that appear legitimate but contain malicious scripts or links. This may lead to phishing attacks, credential theft, or other client-side exploits when recipients open the email.

Compliance Impact

This vulnerability could lead to unauthorized data access or disclosure, violating GDPR's integrity and confidentiality principles. For HIPAA, it may risk protected health information exposure if emails contain such data.

Mitigation Strategies

Update the TYPO3 Fluid-Form extension to the latest patched version. Apply HTML escaping to all user-provided data in email templates. Review and sanitize any existing emails containing user input.
