Executive Summary

The GeoDirectory WordPress plugin before version 2.8.194 has a flaw where unauthenticated users can access non-public listing details through a REST endpoint. The plugin fails to check if a user has permission to view a listing, allowing access to draft, pending, private, or trashed listings by providing the listing ID. This exposes the title, permalink, and card fields of restricted content.

Detection Guidance

Check if unauthenticated users can access non-public listing details via the GeoDirectory plugin's REST endpoint. Test by sending a request to the marker popup endpoint with a listing ID of a draft, pending, private, or trashed listing. If the response includes title, permalink, or card fields, the vulnerability is present.

Impact Analysis

This vulnerability allows unauthorized users to view sensitive information from non-public listings, such as unpublished content, drafts, or private posts. Attackers could gather details about restricted listings without authentication, potentially leading to data leaks or misuse of unpublished information.

Compliance Impact

This vulnerability could lead to non-compliance with data protection regulations like GDPR or HIPAA by exposing sensitive or unpublished data to unauthorized parties. Unauthorized access to private listings may violate confidentiality requirements and data protection principles.

Mitigation Strategies

Update the GeoDirectory plugin to version 2.8.194 or later immediately to patch the vulnerability. If updating is not possible, consider disabling the plugin temporarily until an update is applied.
