Executive Summary

Stirling-PDF 3.0.0 through 3.2.0 has an authorization bypass flaw. Authenticated users can access other users' stored files by creating a processing folder that points to the server's storage directory. They can target paths like storage/<victimUserId>, list files, and manipulate them through processing pipelines.

Impact Analysis

If you use Stirling-PDF 3.0.0 to 3.2.0, an attacker with valid credentials could read, modify, or delete your files. This includes sensitive documents stored by other users on the same server. The impact depends on the data stored and could lead to data breaches or loss.

Compliance Impact

This vulnerability could violate GDPR by exposing personal data without authorization. For HIPAA, it risks unauthorized access to protected health information. Compliance failures may result in legal penalties, fines, or reputational damage depending on the data involved.

Mitigation Strategies

Upgrade Stirling-PDF to a version beyond 3.2.0 to address the authorization bypass vulnerability. Ensure proper access controls are enforced on the storage directory to prevent unauthorized access to user files.
