Executive Summary

This is a reflected cross-site scripting (XSS) vulnerability in BMC Helix Operations Management version 25.4.00. It allows authenticated attackers to inject malicious scripts into another user's browser session via a crafted link. The flaw arises from improper input neutralization during web page generation.

Detection Guidance

Detecting this reflected XSS vulnerability requires monitoring web traffic for suspicious inputs or payloads. Check HTTP responses for unfiltered user input in the agent query feature. Use tools like Burp Suite or OWASP ZAP to intercept and inspect requests/responses for script tags or event handlers in parameters.

Impact Analysis

An attacker could trick you into clicking a malicious link, executing unwanted scripts in your browser. This might lead to session hijacking, data theft, or unauthorized actions on your behalf within the application.

Mitigation Strategies

Immediately restrict access to the agent query feature until a patch is available. Implement input validation and output encoding for all user-supplied data. Monitor network traffic for unusual activity and educate users to avoid clicking untrusted links.
