Description

Wavlink WL-WN530BE1-A firmware through M30BE1_V251117 contains an OS command injection vulnerability in the sub_23B54 function of the ioos binary, which passes the unsanitized file_id parameter of /protocol.csp?opt=ovpn_file requests with type=del to popen(). A remote unauthenticated attacker can send a forged IP-FROM: 127.0.0.1 header to bypass login and execute arbitrary commands as root.

Executive Summary

This vulnerability is an unauthenticated OS command injection flaw in Wavlink WL-WN530BE1-A router firmware version M30BE1_V251117. It exists in the ioos binary's sub_23B54 function which processes /protocol.csp?opt=ovpn_file requests. The file_id parameter is passed unsanitized to popen() allowing command execution. Attackers can bypass authentication by forging an IP-FROM: 127.0.0.1 header and execute arbitrary commands as root.

Detection Guidance

To detect this vulnerability, monitor network traffic for requests to /protocol.csp?opt=ovpn_file with type=del and a malicious file_id parameter. Check for forged IP-FROM: 127.0.0.1 headers in HTTP requests targeting vulnerable Wavlink WL-WN530BE1-A devices with firmware M30BE1_V251117.

Impact Analysis

This vulnerability allows remote unauthenticated attackers to fully compromise the affected router. They can execute arbitrary commands as root, steal sensitive data, install persistent malware, or use the device as a pivot point in larger attacks. Since it bypasses authentication entirely, any internet-facing device with vulnerable firmware is at immediate risk.

Compliance Impact

This vulnerability likely violates compliance requirements for data protection regulations like GDPR and HIPAA due to unauthorized access to sensitive data. Compromised routers could expose personal health information or other regulated data. Organizations using affected devices would need to report breaches and implement compensating controls to maintain compliance.

Mitigation Strategies

Immediately update the Wavlink WL-WN530BE1-A firmware to the latest version. If no patch is available, restrict access to the device's web interface via network segmentation or firewall rules. Disable remote administration and monitor for suspicious activity.
