Description

The Product Filter for WooCommerce by WBW plugin for WordPress is vulnerable to Missing Authorization / Information Disclosure in all versions up to, and including, 3.4.6 via the 'filterSettings[default_query]' parameter of the 'filtersFrontend' AJAX action. The handler is registered as 'wp_ajax_nopriv_filtersFrontend' and performs no capability or nonce check; raw POST data is JSON-decoded into $filterSettings and the attacker-controlled 'default_query' array is unconditionally array_merge()'d into the WP_Query arguments, overriding the plugin's safe defaults (most notably post_status, post_type, posts_per_page, and nopaging). This makes it possible for unauthenticated attackers to enumerate non-public WooCommerce products (draft, future, pending) β€” including their count and rendered listing markup β€” and to force unbounded queries that load all products in a single request.

Executive Summary

This vulnerability is in the Product Filter for WooCommerce plugin for WordPress. It allows unauthenticated attackers to access non-public WooCommerce products by exploiting missing authorization checks in the 'filterSettings[default_query]' parameter of the 'filtersFrontend' AJAX action. The plugin fails to verify user permissions or use nonces, enabling attackers to manipulate database queries and retrieve sensitive product information.

Detection Guidance

Check WordPress sites using the Product Filter for WooCommerce plugin version 3.4.6 or lower. Look for unauthorized AJAX requests to 'wp_ajax_nopriv_filtersFrontend' with POST data containing 'filterSettings[default_query]'. Monitor for unusual product enumeration or large query responses.

Impact Analysis

If you use this plugin, attackers could enumerate draft, future, or pending WooCommerce products, including their count and listing details. They could also force the website to load all products in a single request, potentially causing performance issues or denial-of-service conditions.

Compliance Impact

This vulnerability could lead to unauthorized access to sensitive product data, which may violate GDPR if personal data is exposed. For HIPAA, if the WooCommerce store handles protected health information, unauthorized disclosure could result in compliance violations. The risk depends on the type of data processed by the store.

Mitigation Strategies

Update the Product Filter for WooCommerce plugin to the latest version. If an update is unavailable, disable the plugin immediately. Review server logs for suspicious AJAX requests to 'wp_ajax_nopriv_filtersFrontend' and block unauthorized access via firewall rules.
