Executive Summary

CVE-2026-115712 is an Incorrect Authorization vulnerability in Elastic Cloud Enterprise (ECE) where authenticated users with read-only access can modify platform-level settings that should only be changeable by administrators. This occurs due to improperly constrained functionality by ACLs.

Detection Guidance

To detect this vulnerability, check the version of Elastic Cloud Enterprise (ECE) running on your system. Compare it against versions 3.8.0 to 3.8.5 and 4.0.0 to 4.2.0. If your version falls within these ranges, the system is vulnerable. Use commands like 'curl -X GET https://<ECE_HOST>:12400/api/v1/platform/configuration' to inspect platform settings.

Impact Analysis

An attacker with read-only access could change installation-wide account settings, potentially leading to unauthorized modifications that affect system configuration or security policies. This could disrupt operations or introduce security risks.

Mitigation Strategies

Immediately upgrade Elastic Cloud Enterprise (ECE) to version 3.8.6 or 4.2.1, or a later version. No workarounds are available, so upgrading is the only mitigation. Verify the upgrade by checking the version again using the same commands mentioned for detection.
