Executive Summary

CVE-2026-116018 is an Insecure Direct Object Reference (IDOR) vulnerability in the ONEARMY community-platform before version 2.165.2. It allows authenticated users to mark other users' notifications as read by sending POST requests to /api/notifications/:id/read. Attackers can iterate sequential notification IDs to suppress unread indicators for users in the same tenant, causing them to miss replies, comments, or new-content notices.

Detection Guidance

To detect this vulnerability, monitor API logs for POST requests to /api/notifications/:id/read with sequential IDs. Check if users report missing notifications despite them being unread. Use network traffic analysis tools to identify unauthorized notification state changes.

Impact Analysis

If exploited, this vulnerability could allow attackers to hide important notifications from other users in the same tenant. Victims may miss critical updates like replies, comments, or new content alerts, potentially disrupting collaboration or communication within the platform.

Mitigation Strategies

Upgrade to version 2.165.2 or later. Review API access logs for suspicious activity. Implement additional authentication checks for notification endpoints. Restrict notification ID enumeration by adding rate limiting or user-specific ID validation.
