Executive Summary

Grav CMS versions 2.0.15 through 2.2.12 are vulnerable to an allowlist bypass. Page editors with specific permissions can exploit Flex form override directives by manipulating data-*@ fields with unset-name@ or integer keys. This allows them to call arbitrary public static methods like Folder::delete or Utils::download, leading to file and directory manipulation outside the intended page tree.

Detection Guidance

Check Grav CMS version with: grep -r "version" /path/to/grav/vendor/getgrav/grav/CHANGELOG.md. If version is 2.0.15 to 2.2.12, the system is vulnerable. Inspect page frontmatter for crafted data-*@ directives with unset-name@ or integer keys in Flex form overrides.

Impact Analysis

Attackers with page-edit permissions could delete directories, overwrite files, or read files outside the page tree. This could lead to data loss, unauthorized access to sensitive files, or system compromise. The impact is severe due to the high CVSS score of 8.7.

Compliance Impact

This vulnerability could lead to unauthorized file access or deletion, violating data integrity and confidentiality requirements in GDPR and HIPAA. Unauthorized access to sensitive files may result in non-compliance with these regulations, potentially leading to legal and financial penalties.

Mitigation Strategies

Upgrade Grav CMS to version 2.2.13 or later immediately. Review and remove any suspicious Flex form overrides in page frontmatter. Restrict page-edit permissions to trusted users only.
