CWE ID Description
CWE-74 The product constructs all or part of a command, data structure, or record using externally-influenced input from an upstream component, but it does not neutralize or incorrectly neutralizes special elements that could modify how it is parsed or interpreted when it is sent to a downstream component.
CWE-89 The product constructs all or part of an SQL command using externally-influenced input from an upstream component, but it does not neutralize or incorrectly neutralizes special elements that could modify the intended SQL command when it is sent to a downstream component. Without sufficient removal or quoting of SQL syntax in user-controllable inputs, the generated SQL query can cause those inputs to be interpreted as SQL instead of ordinary user data.

Executive Summary

CVE-2026-116048 is a SQL injection vulnerability in the EmployeeRecruitmentSystem application. It allows remote attackers to inject malicious SQL code through POST parameters like firstname, middlename, lastname, gender, birthdate, state, city, and others in the file /source/registerform1.php. The vulnerability occurs because user input is directly concatenated into an INSERT statement without sanitization or parameterization.

Detection Guidance

To detect this SQL injection vulnerability, monitor HTTP responses for 'Database error' messages or 302 redirects after submitting POST requests with malicious payloads in fields like firstname, middlename, lastname, or birthdate. Use tools like SQLmap to test for boolean-based, time-based, or error-based injection by sending crafted inputs and observing delays or errors.

Impact Analysis

This vulnerability can allow attackers to perform SQL injection attacks, enabling them to extract sensitive data such as candidate emails and plaintext passwords from the database. Attackers can also manipulate or delete data, bypass authentication, and perform other malicious actions without needing authentication. Exploitation can be confirmed through HTTP response differences or time delays in responses.

Compliance Impact

This vulnerability can lead to unauthorized access and exposure of sensitive personal data, which violates compliance requirements under GDPR and HIPAA. It may result in data breaches, unauthorized disclosures, and failure to protect personal health or employment information, potentially leading to legal penalties and reputational damage.

Mitigation Strategies

Immediately replace vulnerable mysql_query calls with prepared statements using mysqli or PDO. Implement strict input validation for all user-supplied data. Remove detailed error messages from responses. Restrict database user permissions to least privilege. Audit all endpoints for similar SQL injection flaws. Since the system is unsupported, consider isolating or replacing it.
