Description

A flaw has been found in krupalshah EmployeeRecruitmentSystem up to 922ff6d208278282e7c8e36d70d9ae356adec9fe. Affected by this issue is the function mysql_query of the file /source/registerform2.php of the component Registration Wizard. Executing a manipulation of the argument university/institute/branch/degree/status/cpi/semester/experience can lead to sql injection. It is possible to launch the attack remotely. The exploit has been published and may be used. This product takes the approach of rolling releases to provide continious delivery. Therefore, version details for affected and updated releases are not available. The vendor was contacted early about this disclosure but did not respond in any way. This vulnerability only affects products that are no longer supported by the maintainer.

CWE ID Description
CWE-74 The product constructs all or part of a command, data structure, or record using externally-influenced input from an upstream component, but it does not neutralize or incorrectly neutralizes special elements that could modify how it is parsed or interpreted when it is sent to a downstream component.
CWE-89 The product constructs all or part of an SQL command using externally-influenced input from an upstream component, but it does not neutralize or incorrectly neutralizes special elements that could modify the intended SQL command when it is sent to a downstream component. Without sufficient removal or quoting of SQL syntax in user-controllable inputs, the generated SQL query can cause those inputs to be interpreted as SQL instead of ordinary user data.

Executive Summary

CVE-2026-116049 is a SQL injection vulnerability in the EmployeeRecruitmentSystem application. It exists in the file /source/registerform2.php where user input from POST parameters (university, institute, branch, degree, status, cpi, semester, experience) is directly concatenated into an SQL query without sanitization. This allows remote attackers to inject malicious SQL code and manipulate the database without authentication.

Detection Guidance

To detect this SQL injection vulnerability, inspect the EmployeeRecruitmentSystem application for the vulnerable file /source/registerform2.php. Check if the application uses unparameterized mysql_query with direct POST parameter concatenation. Test by sending crafted POST requests with boolean-based payloads (e.g., ' OR 1=1 --) or time-based payloads (e.g., ' OR SLEEP(5)--) to observe application responses.

Impact Analysis

This vulnerability allows attackers to extract sensitive data such as academic records, emails, and plaintext passwords from the database. They can also manipulate or delete data. Since the system is no longer supported, there are no patches available, making affected deployments permanently vulnerable.

Compliance Impact

This vulnerability likely violates GDPR and HIPAA requirements for protecting personal and sensitive data. Unauthorized database access and data exfiltration could lead to regulatory fines, legal liabilities, and loss of compliance certifications due to inadequate security controls.

Mitigation Strategies

Immediately replace mysql_query with prepared statements using MySQLi or PDO. Validate and sanitize all user inputs. Implement generic error handling to avoid exposing database errors. Restrict database user permissions to the minimum required. Audit other SQL endpoints in the application for similar issues.
