Description

NiubiGEO before 0.3.2 contains an unauthenticated server-side request forgery vulnerability that allows remote attackers to make the server fetch internal addresses by supplying a crafted domain value to POST /audit-plan. Attackers can submit IP literals, localhost, or private and link-local hosts to read loopback, internal-network, or cloud metadata responses returned in the plan's siteEvidence JSON.

Executive Summary

CVE-2026-116069 is an unauthenticated Server-Side Request Forgery (SSRF) vulnerability in NiubiGEO before version 0.3.2. It allows remote attackers to make the server fetch internal addresses by submitting a crafted domain value to the POST /audit-plan endpoint. Attackers can specify IP literals, localhost, private hosts, or link-local addresses to access loopback interfaces, internal networks, or cloud metadata. The server then returns this sensitive data in the siteEvidence JSON of the plan.

Detection Guidance

To detect this vulnerability, monitor POST requests to /audit-plan with domain fields containing internal addresses like localhost, private IPs, or cloud metadata endpoints. Check server logs for unusual outbound requests to these destinations. Use network monitoring tools to inspect traffic from the NiubiGEO service to internal or unexpected hosts.

Impact Analysis

This vulnerability allows attackers to access internal services, sensitive metadata, and cloud provider information without authentication. It could lead to data leaks, unauthorized access to internal networks, or exposure of confidential information stored on the server. Systems using vulnerable versions of NiubiGEO are at risk of information disclosure and potential further exploitation.

Compliance Impact

This SSRF vulnerability could lead to unauthorized access to personal or sensitive data, violating GDPR and HIPAA compliance requirements. GDPR mandates strict protection of personal data, while HIPAA requires safeguards for protected health information. A breach through this vulnerability may result in non-compliance, legal penalties, and reputational damage due to unauthorized data exposure.

Mitigation Strategies

Immediately upgrade NiubiGEO to version 0.3.2 or later. Ensure the new image (ghcr.io/albert-weasker/niubigeo:v0.3.2) is deployed. Block or restrict access to the /audit-plan endpoint if not essential. Review and update firewall rules to prevent outbound requests to internal or reserved IP ranges.
