CWE ID Description
CWE-89 The product constructs all or part of an SQL command using externally-influenced input from an upstream component, but it does not neutralize or incorrectly neutralizes special elements that could modify the intended SQL command when it is sent to a downstream component. Without sufficient removal or quoting of SQL syntax in user-controllable inputs, the generated SQL query can cause those inputs to be interpreted as SQL instead of ordinary user data.

Executive Summary

SiYuan before v3.8.7 has a SQL injection flaw in its history search feature. Admin-token holders can inject unescaped 'op' and 'type=3' query values to access history.db. Attackers exploit this by sending crafted UNION SELECT payloads to searchHistory or getHistoryItems endpoints to steal deleted document content, titles, and paths.

Detection Guidance

To detect this vulnerability, monitor network traffic for suspicious requests to the searchHistory or getHistoryItems endpoints with crafted UNION SELECT payloads in the op or query parameters. Check SiYuan logs for admin-token holders accessing history.db or unusual SQL query patterns.

Impact Analysis

If you are an admin or have admin privileges in SiYuan, an attacker with access to your system could exploit this to read sensitive data from history.db, including content of deleted documents, titles, and paths. This could lead to data breaches or unauthorized access to confidential information.

Compliance Impact

This vulnerability could lead to unauthorized access to sensitive data, violating GDPR's data protection principles and HIPAA's security rules. Organizations using SiYuan may face compliance violations, potential fines, and reputational damage if exploited.

Mitigation Strategies

Upgrade SiYuan to version 3.8.7 or later. If upgrading is not immediately possible, restrict access to admin tokens and endpoints, implement input validation for op and query parameters, and add SQL query sanitization for type=3 searches.
