Executive Summary

Webasyst Framework through version 4.4.0 has a stored cross-site scripting (XSS) vulnerability in the Photos app. Authenticated backend users with album edit rights can inject JavaScript by setting the album url parameter to a value that breaks out of an unescaped attribute in DialogAlbumSettings.html. This allows the injected script to execute in the backend sessions of administrators.

Detection Guidance

Check for suspicious JavaScript injections in the Photos app album URL parameters. Review backend logs for unauthorized script execution in DialogAlbumSettings.html. Inspect network traffic for unexpected script payloads in album edit requests.

Impact Analysis

If you are an administrator using Webasyst Framework, an attacker with album edit rights could exploit this to run malicious JavaScript in your backend session. This could lead to session hijacking, unauthorized actions, or theft of sensitive data like credentials or personal information.

Compliance Impact

This vulnerability could lead to unauthorized access or data breaches, violating GDPR's integrity and confidentiality requirements or HIPAA's safeguards for protected health information. Organizations may face compliance violations, fines, or reputational damage if exploited.

Mitigation Strategies

Upgrade Webasyst Framework to version 4.4.1 or later. Apply input validation to sanitize the album url parameter. Restrict album edit permissions to trusted users only. Monitor backend sessions for unusual activity.
