Executive Summary

This is an OS command injection vulnerability in Dolibarr ERP CRM before version 24.0.0. It exists in the htdocs/admin/tools/export.php file and allows authenticated administrators to bypass the restrict_os_commands allowlist. Attackers can chain commands using & characters around an allowlisted basename in the mysqldump parameter to execute arbitrary operating system commands as the web server user.

Detection Guidance

To detect this vulnerability, check Dolibarr versions before 24.0.0. Inspect the export.php file for improper sanitization of the mysqldump parameter. Look for command chaining using & characters in backup commands. Verify if the restrict_os_commands allowlist can be bypassed by authenticated administrators.

Impact Analysis

An attacker with administrative access could execute arbitrary commands on the server running Dolibarr. This could lead to full system compromise, data theft, installation of malware, or disruption of services. The impact depends on the server's configuration and the privileges of the web server user.

Compliance Impact

This vulnerability could lead to unauthorized access to sensitive data, violating GDPR's data protection requirements and HIPAA's security rules. Organizations using vulnerable versions may face compliance violations, potential fines, and reputational damage due to data breaches.

Mitigation Strategies

Upgrade Dolibarr to version 24.0.0 or later to apply the patch. Ensure the mysqldump parameter is properly sanitized to prevent command injection. Review and enforce the restrict_os_commands allowlist to block unauthorized command execution.
