Description

danmu_api before 1.21.7 contains an authentication bypass vulnerability that allows unauthenticated attackers to modify server environment configuration when the default TOKEN is used and ADMIN_TOKEN is unset. Attackers can send POST requests to /api/env/set, /api/env/add, or /api/env/del to set ADMIN_TOKEN, lock out operators, redirect OTHER_SERVER or PROXY_URL for SSRF, and trigger redeployment.

Executive Summary

This vulnerability is an authentication bypass in danmu_api versions before 1.21.7. When the default TOKEN is used and ADMIN_TOKEN is unset, unauthenticated attackers can send POST requests to /api/env/set, /api/env/add, or /api/env/del to modify server environment configurations. This includes setting ADMIN_TOKEN, locking out operators, redirecting URLs for SSRF, and triggering redeployments.

Detection Guidance

Check if the danmu_api service is running and accessible. Test endpoints like /api/env/set, /api/env/add, or /api/env/del with a POST request using the default token '87654321'. If these endpoints accept requests without proper authentication, the system is vulnerable.

Impact Analysis

An attacker could take over your server by changing configurations, lock you out of administrative access, redirect traffic for malicious purposes like SSRF, or force redeployments. This could lead to data breaches, service disruption, or unauthorized system control.

Compliance Impact

This vulnerability could lead to unauthorized access and modification of sensitive data, violating confidentiality and integrity requirements in GDPR and HIPAA. Non-compliance may result in legal penalties, data loss, and reputational damage due to potential breaches of protected health or personal information.

Mitigation Strategies

Update danmu_api to version 1.21.7 or later. Ensure ADMIN_TOKEN is set and the default token '87654321' is not used. Restrict access to sensitive endpoints and review environment configurations for unauthorized changes.
