Description

The WP Job Portal – AI-Powered Recruitment System for Company or Job Board website plugin for WordPress is vulnerable to Stored Cross-Site Scripting via the 'degreetitle' parameter in all versions up to, and including, 2.7.0 due to insufficient input sanitization and output escaping. This makes it possible for authenticated attackers, with subscriber-level access and above, to inject arbitrary web scripts in pages that will execute whenever a user accesses an injected page. The plugin's self-registration flow allows any visitor to create a Subscriber-backed Employer account, meaning this vulnerability is effectively exploitable by any user who can register on the site.

Executive Summary

This vulnerability is a Stored Cross-Site Scripting (XSS) flaw in the WP Job Portal WordPress plugin. It exists due to insufficient input sanitization and output escaping in the 'degreetitle' parameter. Attackers with subscriber-level access or higher can inject malicious scripts into web pages. These scripts execute when other users view the affected pages.

Detection Guidance

To detect this vulnerability, inspect WordPress sites using the WP Job Portal plugin versions up to 2.7.0. Check for suspicious scripts in the 'degreetitle' parameter via browser developer tools or database queries. Look for unexpected JavaScript in pages where Employer accounts are created or modified.

Impact Analysis

An attacker could steal user sessions, deface websites, or redirect visitors to malicious sites. Since subscriber accounts can be created via self-registration, any visitor who registers on the site can exploit this vulnerability. This may lead to unauthorized data access or loss of trust in the affected website.

Compliance Impact

This vulnerability could lead to unauthorized data access or modification, violating GDPR's data protection requirements. For HIPAA, it may compromise protected health information if exploited on healthcare-related sites. Both regulations mandate safeguards against such vulnerabilities.

Mitigation Strategies

Update the WP Job Portal plugin to version 2.7.1 or later immediately. If updating is not possible, disable the plugin until patched. Review user accounts for unauthorized changes and remove any suspicious scripts from the 'degreetitle' parameter in the database.
