Executive Summary

This is a stored cross-site scripting (XSS) vulnerability in Devolutions PowerShell Universal versions 2026.3.0 and earlier. It allows an authenticated user with notification creation permissions to inject malicious JavaScript into notification target URLs. When other users view these notifications, the script executes in their browsers.

Detection Guidance

Check if your Devolutions PowerShell Universal version is 2026.3.0 or earlier. Inspect notification target URLs for suspicious JavaScript payloads or unusual characters. Review browser console logs for unexpected script executions in user sessions.

Impact Analysis

An attacker could steal session cookies, perform actions on your behalf, or redirect you to malicious sites. This could lead to unauthorized access to sensitive data, account takeover, or further malware infections. The impact includes confidentiality, integrity, and availability risks.

Compliance Impact

This vulnerability could lead to unauthorized data access or modification, violating GDPR's integrity and confidentiality principles. For HIPAA, it may compromise protected health information (PHI) security. Both standards require safeguards against such breaches, and this flaw could result in non-compliance.

Mitigation Strategies

Upgrade to PowerShell Universal version 2026.3.1 or higher immediately. Remove notification creation permissions from untrusted users until the upgrade is complete. Monitor for any suspicious activity in notification logs.
