Executive Summary

REDAXO before version 5.21.5 has an insufficient session expiration vulnerability. When a user changes their password, the system does not invalidate the current session or stay-logged-in cookie. Attackers who obtained a session ID or stay-logged-in cookie can retain backend access for up to three months even after a password change.

Impact Analysis

If an attacker gains access to your session ID or stay-logged-in cookie, they can maintain unauthorized access to your account for up to three months after you change your password. This could lead to data theft, unauthorized actions, or further compromise of the system.

Compliance Impact

This vulnerability could lead to unauthorized access to sensitive data, violating confidentiality requirements in GDPR and HIPAA. Organizations using vulnerable versions may fail to protect user data adequately, risking non-compliance and potential legal consequences.

Mitigation Strategies

Update REDAXO to version 5.21.5 or later to fix the session expiration issue. Ensure all users change their passwords after updating and log out of all sessions. Monitor for unauthorized access attempts.
