Privilege Escalation via Audit Log Exposure in Octopus Server

Vulnerability report for CVE-2026-117341, including description, CVSS score, EPSS score, affected products, exploitability, helpful resources, and attack-flow context.

Publication date: 2026-10-27

Last updated on: 2026-10-27

Assigner: Octopus Deploy

Description

In affected versions of Octopus Server, creating a user invitation writes the invitation code to the audit event log. When the invitation is linked to a space, a user in that space with appropriate permissions could read the code from the audit event. Successfully exploiting this by redeeming the unclaimed invitation could allow the user to escalate privileges however this is dependant on the permissions assigned for the invited user.

Executive Summary

In affected versions of Octopus Server, creating a user invitation writes the invitation code to the audit event log. A user in the space with appropriate permissions could read the code from the log and redeem the invitation, potentially escalating their privileges depending on the invited user's permissions.

Detection Guidance

Check Octopus Server audit logs for user invitation events where invitation codes are exposed. Look for entries containing 'invitation code' or similar patterns in the audit trail. No specific commands are provided in the resources.

Impact Analysis

An attacker with space permissions could exploit this to gain elevated privileges by redeeming an unclaimed invitation. This could lead to unauthorized access or control over the Octopus Server environment.

Compliance Impact

This vulnerability could potentially impact compliance with GDPR and HIPAA by exposing sensitive user invitation codes through audit logs. If exploited, it may lead to unauthorized privilege escalation, compromising data access controls required by these regulations.

Mitigation Strategies

Upgrade Octopus Server to version 2026.2.13438, 2026.3.15829, or later. Octopus Cloud customers are already patched. No other mitigation is available, so upgrading is required.
