Executive Summary

This is a Stored Cross-site Scripting (XSS) vulnerability in Drupal AI module versions 0.0.0 to 1.4.11 and 1.5.0 to 1.5.2. It allows attackers to inject malicious scripts that are stored on the server and executed when other users view affected pages.

Detection Guidance

To detect this stored XSS vulnerability in Drupal AI, inspect web application inputs and outputs for malicious scripts. Check Drupal AI module versions (0.0.0 to 1.4.11 or 1.5.0 to 1.5.2) and review user-generated content for injected scripts. Use browser developer tools to monitor network requests and responses for unusual payloads.

Impact Analysis

An attacker could steal user sessions, deface websites, redirect users to malicious sites, or perform actions on behalf of users. Users with administrative access could be particularly targeted to escalate privileges.

Compliance Impact

This vulnerability could lead to unauthorized data access or modification, violating GDPR's data protection requirements and HIPAA's security rules for protected health information. Organizations may face compliance penalties if exploited.

Mitigation Strategies

Immediately update Drupal AI to a version outside the affected range (1.4.12 or later, or 1.5.3 or later). Disable the module if updates are unavailable. Implement input validation and output encoding for user-generated content. Monitor for signs of exploitation such as unexpected scripts in web pages.
