SQLite Authorization Bypass via JOIN Column Access

Vulnerability report for CVE-2026-119377, including description, CVSS score, EPSS score, affected products, exploitability, helpful resources, and attack-flow context.

Description

SQLite before 3.54.0 contains an authorization bypass vulnerability in lookupName() that invokes the authorizer only for the first joined table's USING column. Attackers able to submit SQL can query a shared USING column in a RIGHT or FULL JOIN to read columns denied via sqlite3_set_authorizer() SQLITE_READ restrictions.

Executive Summary

SQLite before 3.54.0 has an authorization bypass in the lookupName() function. When using RIGHT or FULL JOIN with a USING clause, the authorizer only checks the first joined table's column, allowing attackers to read restricted columns by querying shared USING columns in such joins.

Impact Analysis

Attackers with SQL submission access could bypass column-level permissions set via sqlite3_set_authorizer(), potentially reading sensitive data they should not have access to. This could lead to unauthorized data exposure or information leaks in applications using vulnerable SQLite versions.

Compliance Impact

This vulnerability could violate compliance requirements that mandate strict access controls and data protection, such as GDPR's data minimization or HIPAA's access controls. Unauthorized data access may lead to regulatory penalties or breaches of confidentiality obligations.

Mitigation Strategies

Upgrade SQLite to version 3.54.0 or later to address the authorization bypass in RIGHT or FULL JOIN operations with USING clauses.
