Description

OpenLiteSpeed through 1.9.4 contains an authentication bypass vulnerability that allows unauthenticated remote attackers to evade virtual host client certificate requirements over HTTP/3. Because QuicStream inherits a verifyContext() implementation that always returns true, attackers can present a non-mTLS host's SNI with a protected Host header to access protected content.

Executive Summary

OpenLiteSpeed through version 1.9.4 has an authentication bypass flaw in its HTTP/3 implementation. The vulnerability occurs because the QuicStream class incorrectly verifies client certificates, always returning true regardless of the certificate presented. This allows unauthenticated remote attackers to bypass virtual host client certificate requirements by manipulating the SNI and Host headers.

Impact Analysis

This vulnerability could allow attackers to access protected content on a server without proper authentication. If you are running OpenLiteSpeed 1.9.4 or earlier, sensitive data or restricted resources could be exposed to unauthorized users over HTTP/3 connections.

Mitigation Strategies

Upgrade OpenLiteSpeed to a version later than 1.9.4 to address the authentication bypass in HTTP/3 handling.
